HOMEGROWN, THE NEW SOUTH AFRICAN DISTRIBUTION LABEL TO BENEFIT THE AGRI-FOOD SECTOR
The South African food distribution giant, Shoprite, has just introduced the "homegrown" label.
"Homegrown" aims to promote local products by creating a dedicated sales area for them in the group's 535 supermarkets... an unexpected boon for many producers and small manufacturers.
About thirty references in all segments (confectionery, biscuits, snacks, etc.) are currently selected by Shoprite, which plans to add more continuously.
In these constrained times, South African retailers are proving to be a key partner for these small players by providing them with outlets. Contributing to increasing the turnover of the sectors, having a positive impact on local communities, creating more jobs are precisely the major determinants of growth highly regarded by the South African authorities.
