COP26 GLASGOW: 8.5 BILLION USD MOBILIZED
8.5 billion USD is the amount mobilized by the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union to enable South Africa to accelerate its energy transition towards a low-carbon economy, and reduce its dependence on coal.
South Africa, which holds sad records in terms of pollution due to the massive use of coal in its industry, adopted an energy strategy a few years ago to produce 42% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030 and is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa welcomes this partnership between countries, which marks "a turning point, and it is proof that we can take ambitious climate action while increasing our energy security, creating jobs and taking advantage of investment opportunities with the support of developed countries”.
